Through continuing innovation, the company grew to become one of the world's leading suppliers of construction chemicals, with emphasis on integrated system solutions. Diversification into the field of industrial adhesives followed in the early 1980s.

Today Sika operates as a global company with a network of 90 production and marketing companies in 70 countries. It employs 10,000 people, achieving an annual turnover of over CHF 2.9 billion (2005).

In R&D, eight technology centers located around the world perform work on improving products, solutions and applications. In coordination with regional technology support centers, effort is also put in to adjust products to local conditions and to the diverse needs of customers. A central research unit provides overall direction and management.

Sika in Malaysia

Sika was first established in Malaysia in 1989 and full operations commenced in 1991 through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sika Kimia Sdn. Bhd., with the completion of its local head office and production plant in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. Since then, the company has gained a leading position in the country with the acceptance and endorsement of its products for construction and industrial applications by local and international proponents.

In the construction sector, our business activities cover the full spectrum of project types ranging from infrastructural development to buildings, from institutional facilities to manufacturing plants. We service our direct customers - concrete producers, contractors and distributors - and stay close to them through our central sales & marketing office in Petaling Jaya and a network of sales offices in Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

We find it rewarding to work with construction industry professionals, specialists, project managers and owners in identifying the needs and solutions for the diverse demands of a project from the first stages of conception and design through to successful execution. This approach has helped us achieve a successful record of performance in major projects including the KLIA, Petronas Twin Towers, 1st Silicon Wafer Plant, Putrajaya, KLCC and, more recently, the SMART Tunnel and Bakun Dam.

In Malaysia, our Industry Division is the clear market leader in the automotive glass replacement sector (AGR) and the “Sikaflex” brand is instantly recognised as a mark for quality, reliability and performance. In the automotive OEM sector, we are the approved supplier to top German car makers such as Mercedes Benz and BMW. Meanwhile, Sika leads the field in total bonding, sealing, damping, reinforcing and protection solutions for  bus, truck and rail vehicle manufacturing, and for the assembly of appliances, industrial equipment and building components.

Training plays a key role in our efforts at improving work standards and productivity. We conduct formal and informal programs covering classroom and practical sessions where both our customers and our own people gain knowledge in product behaviour and application methods and are introduced to new technologies.

Currently, Sika Kimia Sdn. Bhd. employs more than 100 people in sales & marketing, technical service, finance & administration, production, laboratory operations and logistics. Our well-trained professionals are in close touch with the market, creating the right conditions for sustained growth.
